Boulder, Colorado

The William Smith Livingston Society had its organizing meeting on August 27th, 1937, the 182nd birthday of this patriot who was born on the 27th of August 1755. This first meeting was held at the home of the DAR Regent, Mrs. Carolyn Gillaspie who lived in Boulder, CO. She proposed the name of her great-great grandfather to be given to the new Boulder Society, Lt. Colonel William S. Livingston. He had enlisted in the New York Militia in 1775 and rose through the ranks from lieutenant to an Aide-de Camp for General Greene and later became a prominent lawyer in New York City.

His legacy lives on in the members of the society that serve Boulder County and the surrounding area. We just celebrated his 267th birthday and have participated in flag burning ceremonies, ice cream social birthday party for William, attended Honor Flight receptions, a visit to Ft. Lancaster Lupton at the Heritage Fair, paging at the CO DAR State Conference, and Veteran’s Day ceremonies.
